McPeek Runners Eye Breeders’ Cup

Trainer Ken McPeek reports that GII Pocahontas S. upsetter Dothraki Queen (Pure Prize) and Rated R Superstar (Kodiak Kowboy), runner-up in the GIII Iroquois S., have emerged from their Saturday efforts unscathed and will be pointed for starts in their respective Breeders’ Cup races at the end of October.

“We’ll give them both something at Keeneland,” McPeek said. “We may train up the Breeders’ Cup or run them once in between.”

Keeneland hosts the GI Darley Alcibiades S. for 2-year-old fillies Oct. 2 and the GI Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity for the males Oct. 3.

Owned by Magdalena Racing, Dothraki Queen, a $35,000 Keeneland September acquisition, was taking her record to two wins from as many starts in the Pocahontas, having graduated by seven lengths at first asking over the Ellis Park turf course July 12. Dismissed at 7-1 Saturday, Dothraki Queen sat an inside trip for Corey Lanerie and got through in upper stretch before going on to a 1/2-length victory. Rated R Superstar broked his maiden by five lengths in his penultimate start at the peapatch and was far back behind a fast pace in the Iroquois before finishing willingly for second, two lengths behind Cocked and Loaded (Colonel John).
